2010 / 2011

The first in history academic year inauguration ceremony at the Gdynia Film School is behind us. ‘It is not important where you place the camera but why’ said Robert Gliński quoting Krzysztof Kieślowski on welcoming the students.

2010 / 2011

Among others, Wojciech Szczurek, the President of Gdynia along with the representatives of the Marshal Office, some lecturers of the School and the Students were present at the opening ceremony. The inauguration was held in the romantic interiors of one of the oldest buildings in Gdynia – the neo-Gothic palace in Gdynia Mały Kack – the new seat of the Gdynia Film School.

Following the academic code of conduct, the solemn vow was made under the direction of Leszek Kopeć – the Director of the Gdynia Film School and the first students were presented with their registration books. The opening lecture entitled ‘A couple of non-inventive remarks on the screen adaptations of literature’ was delivered by Paweł Huelle.

Jurek Rados presented the President of Gdynia with the first member card of the new Cinematography Circles Club. The Club has been established to integrate cinema-associated people – the filmmakers and the film aficionados. Affiliated with the Gdynia Film School, the Club will organize special screenings, lectures and meeting.

Wojtek Mazolewski Trio in Quarted performed for the gathered guests. This was the first performance of this ensemble, which shall have its official launch this year in the autumn. The musicians in the Trio originally come from WMQ and Pink Froyd. They perform a crude dose of free improv basing on melodies, common search and discussion. They are planning to use the compositions of Krzysztof Komeda and Andrzej Kurylewicz as a springboard for jumping into the realm of the unknown. The Trio is composed of Wojtek Mazolewski, Marek Pospieszalski [MP3, WMQ] and Jerzy Rogiewicz [Levity, Pink Freud]. At the inauguration they performed together with Tomek Szwelinek, called Szwelas [known from the Rogulus-Szwelas und Gos band and the collaboration with Mikołaj Trzaska]. During the recent weekend, Szwelas, Wojtek Mazolewski and Michał Gos recorded new compositions which will be published shortly.

Right after the ceremony, the students started their first classes in feature movie directing principles delivered by Robert Gliński.
